Solved On a Windows 7 computer, with Office installed, suddenly all DOCX files were not displayed with the default Word icon in Explorer, even though the DOCX file association was set up correctly and all microsoft word 2016 icon missing free files opened without problems with Word application. I performed the repair and also set word as default program but did not help. All rights aord. In this way, you can change parts of the icon. Inserting and modifying an icon lets you set a mood. I have done a repair locally and online but this has failed. This situation is extremely exasperating as i cannot seem to find rhyme or reason for this. Was this reply helpful? Office I have found elements of Office 16 in Root directory which i wanted to remove as well but how do i do so if this toll cannot even see residual files from the newer office version?

I then installed Office However if I create a new folder on the desktop and move this file into the folder, the file regains its icon! The same is observed if i move the blank file from the desktop to Documents or anywhere else. Moving the file back to Desktop makes it go blank again. This is VERY odd! Any clues why??? I am not sure, I have a similar problem with Adobe pdfs on my desktop.

Most of the time they are black! If I do something that refreshes the icons they show the normal pdf icon for awhile and then go black. I think it has something to do with Windows 10 and the graphics. If it doesnt work after this, the laptop is going thru the window! Choose where you want to search below Search Search the Community.
