I spend several hours a week reconfiguring Outlook on several computers because the defaults keep getting used. Outlook didn\’t seem to be nearly as bad as this. It was much, much more user customizable –and much more productive. I get thousands of emails a week, so I don\’t want most any of the social settings on, they just get in the way and greatly slow productivity.

Some settings are still unchangeable, like wanting to remove everything from the Reading Pane except the message body. This thread is locked. You can follow the question or vote as helpful, but you cannot reply to this thread. Threats include any threat of suicide, violence, or harm to another.

My workstation at my job, I have 3 email accounts, one is with Exchange I work at Microsoft , one is my Outlook. Certainly not going to pretend that this is an area that I play around with much or have any kind of in-depth expertise in certainly others on here who are a whole lot more versed in the subject then I am but just doing a quick test to satisfy my own curiosity.

All the settings selected in item 3 stuck when I checked the settings in the newly created folders. Details required : characters remaining Cancel Submit. I have applied changes to all accounts several times a week, on both my machines, since Outlook released. Can\’t really get what I need configured in Outlook Simply just going to throw out the following for the sake of discussion – don\’t know whether there is an inherent underlying bug in Outlook or not when it comes to this SO.

Just so there\’s no mistake, not challenging hat you\’re encountering nor am I trying to defend Outlook. In this case, it sounds like there are so many change going on, probably would be impossible to determine the root of the cause. Am not a big believer that stuff \”just happens on its own\” with no explicit contributing factor coming into play. I get resets several times a week on my work machine, but then again, it could be that we\’re dogfooding again. But I know my home machine should be stable, although it has many more email accounts.

It resets every few weeks, sometimes more often. The very heavy use scenarios just aren\’t the focus, especially those in IT or development. I don\’t mind the defaults at the beginning being unusable for me, but:. Even with that – would be impossible to determine if it would actually change over time because it could be months before that may happen as per your description and even then – I wouldn\’t be wouldn\’t be dealing with number of new folders etc you\’ve described.

Trying to replicate something like this to determine the cause would be a time-consuming nightmare. Something probably corrupts, and Outlook sets everything back to its OOB default settings. Which would be fine, if I could change those default settings, but I have found no way to so far. I\’d go back to Outlook , but it\’s IMAP support is much worse, and I need it to sync between my phone and all my workstations.

In any case, from this point forward, will leave it to others – just added comments here for the sake of brainstorming – no more – no less. I have got the same issue with Outlook since a few weeks. I do testify the following: After install of Outlook , one of the first thing I did was to apply a customized view of my own to all message folders.

And that customized view was automatically applied to any folder I created afterwards. This has been working for about six months but it\’s not working anymore since a few weeks.

I do not know what exactly happened as I did reinstall Microsoft Office that had become corrupted in the meantime. Maybe the reinstall or a new Office update is the culprit the as both occurred. The default view for any newly created message folder has reverted to Compact view.

And I have to change it to my custom view manually. I tried to reapply my custom view to all message folders as I did manually but to no avail.

I found the following workaround that is obvious and so simple but I did not apply it to my configuration as I do not want to change a predefined view. Here\’s the link from MSOutlook. Choose where you want to search below Search Search the Community.

Two issues here: When I create new folders, which I do daily, they default to compact view. I want to change the default to single view, so I don\’t have to keep changing it. Outlook seems to frequently reset everything to defaults.

This happens on multiple computers that I am using. Since I can\’t use almost any of the defaults, I would like to change them permanently. I have the same question Report abuse. Details required :. Cancel Submit. Previous Next. When I create new folders, which I do daily, they default to compact view. Out of curiousity – what exactly do you mean by the terms \”compact view\” and \”single view\”?

You may also want to add some details for the benefit of others who read this and be able to provide some insights such as 1 – What defaults are you referring to specifically?

How satisfied are you with this reply? Thanks for your feedback, it helps us improve the site. Defaults like font size in various places. I never group. I always have the reading pane on, and at the bottom. I host about 7 email accounts of various types on my home workstation.

This version of Outlook is the most unusable version for customization and productivity. I\’ve probably used every version that there ever was. In reply to RickHan\’s post on November 20, Works for a while, then back to defaults. Tried all the Office cleanup tools. It might be that I have so many accounts of many different types, that causes it to break.

It works much better with one or two accounts of one type. The current focus for Outlook is on light, social use of email. I create new folders daily in mail, so I have a very large Outlook footprint. I don\’t mind the defaults at the beginning being unusable for me, but: 1. They need to be configurable, and many important ones are not now.

The changes need to stick. In reply to RickHan\’s post on November 21, Did you read my post? I do the apply all, every time I change them back, several times a week, for two years now. It doesn\’t last. Really bad user experience for people like me. So Outlook only gets used during development projects, on special test accounts.

Hello, I have got the same issue with Outlook since a few weeks. This site in other languages x.
